The year 1995 was generally marked by heat. After a period of heavy rainfall from January to March, hot, dry weather set in from April onwards.
The months of July and August were particularly marked by record temperatures with a heat wave that persisted for nearly 28 consecutive days.
Thanks to these conditions, the vegetation started quickly, a week in advance of the usual date. The vines experienced an early and regular growth.
At the end of August, the state of the vines allowed us to hope for a great vintage with beautiful Merlots, perfect ripeness of the Cabernets and gorgeous balance.
At the beginning of September, a few rainy periods did not affect the quality potential of the harvest which took place under good conditions.
This label was specially created in 1995 to celebrate the 50th vintage of Thierry Manoncourt, who directed the estate until his death in 2010. His was an exceptional life marked by brilliant successes—and perhaps more tellingly, some vintages where he voluntarily decided not to produce wine under the name of Château-Figeac, as he deemed the harvest not up to the standards of his winery. This label is truly a collector's item.
